On The Lookout: Hailey Bieber
What Exactly Makes This Super Model So Different Than the Rest?
“Sometimes I Google Myself Just to See What People Are Saying. But We All Do That. If Someone Tells You That They Don’t, They are Lying.”
Let’s face it… if you are even remotely into following fashion and street style, you knew of Ms. Hailey Baldwin before she was Mrs. Hailey Bieber. Being born into fame and having an easier platform to begin her career isn’t how Hailey wants to be remembered, and being told that she only gained recognition after marrying Justin Bieber makes Hailey feel “less of a woman” she says. Hailey has also repeated how she feels uncomfortable posing nude, and will only do swimsuits and lingerie when done in a tasteful way, which sets herself up as a great role model for young girls. You don’t have to appear overly sexy or show parts of your body you don’t want to show to become well-known and respected as a model in the industry.
The modern day supermodel has to be so much more than a pretty face, and we are starting to see the group of women that used to control the industry (Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, Claudia Schiffer, etc.) be replaced by the next generation, which Mrs. Bieber is emerging to be a part of. Not only has Hailey walked some of the largest runway shows and been the face of some of the biggest fashion campaigns in the world, but she did it without the help of any friends or family. And that in itself is admirable. Seeing that the supermodels husband has one of the biggest fan bases out there, getting insecure isn’t easy for Hailey to talk about, but she still remains translucent and has admitted time and time again that she is, because she is human.
Let’s Talk About Street Style
Aside from all that… Hailey’s style is on point. But, differently from her modeling career, she can’t take full credit for her stunning looks and trendy outfits, her stylist can. Hailey has no problem crediting Maeve Reilly, her personal wardrobe stylist, for all the help not only behind but in front of the scenes.
Maeve is represented by The Only Agency out of Los Angeles, but the company has offices in New York City and London as well. That means Hailey has full representation coast to coast, and over seas as well, which is necessary for a world-wide model like herself.
Maeve never stopped working to get where she is today, first as a student at FIT, then as a personal assistant, now styling full-time. Her story and journey is inspiring for aspiring fashion professionals and stylists everywhere, and we don’t see her slowing down the jaw-dropping looks anytime soon, even during quarantine.
This year in 2020 was arguable Hailey’s best year for street style yet. And we aren’t talking about those runway or gala looks, we’re talking about when Hailey is running earrings, traveling, or hanging out with friends… you know, things normal people do!
We would say a closet staple for Hailey is a semi-baggy pair of boyfriend or mom jeans, and she can be seen on a daily basis dressing denim both up and down, which for the everyday fashion-goer, makes replicating looks pretty easy! The slightly over-sized look is something we see as a pattern in Hailey’s style, and for sure isn’t something that is forecasted to be ending soon. Wearing bigger clothing not only makes you feel more comfortable in them, but it allows you to be feminine with your style in different ways than showing off your waist or cleavage, and is something Hailey stands strongly behind. Finding a way to express her feminine side in her looks is very important to Hailey, but she doesn't have to always do it in the most traditional way.
What about everyday accessories? Hailey is a big fan of wearing the same kinds of day-to-day accessories that just differ in size and in color. It starts with a good scrunchie, pair of hoops, and layered necklace. Then ends with a mini-purse and either a pair of booties, or pair of comfortable fashion sneakers. Breaking apart her daily looks is what makes her such an admirable model in terms of street style; because the pieces she has in her wardrobe are versatile, common, and have many cheaper alternatives, which makes them easily accessible to the public.
Dressing fashion forward doesn't always have to be expensive and hard to recreate, and if you focus you efforts on researching fashion icons that combine their non-average looks with more basic ones, it gives you a great platform for inspiration. This has been a common trend for many off-duty supermodels nowadays, not just Mrs. Bieber, and we don’t intend to see the rest of 2020 be much different.
