Ermanno Scervino’s 2021 Resort collection embodies all the assets a typical resortwear collection should have. The shapes allowed for fabrics to flow, the materials were lightweight, and the looks were styled with the warmer weather in mind. This season many designers are picking up on attention to detail, probably because they have so much extra time while being quarentined and are around less distractions. Many runways this season celebrate the same attention to embellishment this collection does. Designers have been doing this through add-ons like lace and sequins. The collection also had quite the bohemian vibe, so these detailed additions ups the luxury of the garments and changes the trend factor the collection has as a whole.
Before we jump into talking about the garments, let’s talk about the accessories and why the decisions the styling team made was so important here. Head pieces are coming in hotter than ever and this collection was no exception to that trend. We have seen the bandana trickle through the seasons for over a year now, and it doesn’t seem to want to leave yet. Using common accessories like bandanas make the collection more appraochable and allows the trend to be worn by larger audiences that may not be as big of risk takers as others.
In addition to the bandana, we see lots of headbands that are very thin and simple. Recently, all kinds of headbands have been making constant appearences. The thin shape used in this collection adds a boho feeling to the otherwise classic lines and somewhat neutral color story.
Now… let’s talk jewelry! Continuing with the same bohemian feeling given with the headbands, the colors and shapes of the earrings and necklaces only further enhance that style. Colors and stones mimick Native American designs and add an edge to looks that appeared more serious before the styling. Also like Dior, Ermanno Scervino featured a flat and comfortable selection of shoes. Right now people are looking to bridge comfort and style, so designers are no fools to steer away from uncomfortable additions.
Something we see repeat itself throughout this resortwear collection is the heavy use of layrered fabrics, much like what was done on the Gucci runway this year. Adding peieces that can be added on or removed is great for utlizing pieces throughout different transitional seasons when the weather is unpredictable. Having a designer collection that reeps a sense of luxury create multipurpose pieces that can range to be less expensive and worn in many ways is an ultimate selling point for the modern consumer. Designers are finding they must maintain relevancy during these uncertain times by making their wearers feel safe and to give options that appeal to a customer with less of a disposable income.
To sum up who these clothes would be for, I would say a woman who values quality, comfort, and classic styles that can be worn for years to come. We need more collections out there that can be worn longer than just the season they were released in. Living in a world where clothes cycle in and out so quickly quite frankly isn’t real life, and can only find success for short or sporadic periods of time. Living with such uncertainties around us, the least people can ask for is a wardobe that won’t throw them any surprises and clothes to feel positive in.
